About Linda ...

Award winning cabaret-influenced jazz singer Linda Kosut, easily sings a repertoire from the standard to the obscure with fresh interpretations.  With a warm voice, enchanting and engaging style, and storytelling skills, she is a most enjoyable and listenable performer.

“Kosut brings her skills as an actress to her insightful interpretations of songs underscored with a fusion of jazz, pop and folk.” - Don Heckman, The International Review of Music

Linda most recent recording, "Easy Come, Easy Go", the music of Johnny Green, originally on the LML Music Label, was released in October 2014 at Feinstein’s at the Nikko, San Francisco  Produced by Mike Greensill, pianist and arranger, this CD represents a 3-year long research project into the life and music of John W. Green composer of “Body and Soul” which remains #1 on the jazz charts 80+ years after its first release.

"Wonderfully winsome, it's easy to understand why she's a multiple winner of cabaret performance awards. Undeniably endearing, this disc is highly recommended." - Doug Boynton, GirlSingers

Her first two CDs received national acclaim. “Life is but a dream”, was named one of the Top 10 CDs of 2003 by Cabaret Hotline; and “Long As You're Living” a tribute to the late jazz singer/songwriter Oscar Brown Jr., received Backstage Magazine’s prestigious BISTRO AWARD – the BMI Award for Outstanding Recording, as well as two MAC nominations (Manhattan Assoc. of Cabarets & Clubs) for Best Female Jazz Singer and Best Jazz Recording.

Linda has been performing on the cabaret and jazz scenes in New York, Seattle and the San Francisco Bay Area for many years. The Los Angeles Times wrote of her 2007 Oscar Brown tribute:

“She deserved a far longer run….there was versatility in her interpretations … her warm, dark sound and articulate theatrically trained phrasing…an illuminating view into the complex byways of Brown’s imagination.”

A native New Yorker, Kosut has been living in San Francisco for thirty plus years. She is a graduate of City College of New York (in mathematics of all things), and has been a student of musical theater and cabaret for most of her life.  She began her professional music journey only as she approached "retirement age" (ask her, and she'll tell you - she's proud of her age, her accomplishments and her wisdom!)

She has appeared in clubs in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Seattle; and in many of the San Francisco Bay Area's jazz & cabaret venues.  She has played at the Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles, Davenport’s in Chicago, in San Francisco at Feinstein’s at the Nikko, Yoshi's San Francisco, Society Cabaret in the Hotel Rex, the Empire Plush Room, The Purple Onion, the Octavia Lounge, and the Rrazz Room, as well as The Metropolitan Room, The Triad and Don’t Tell Mama in New York.

Aside from singing (her favorite thing to do), Linda also teaches performance technique for singers' and designs CDs and other marketing material for performers.  [see her Jizel Music page].

Linda lives in San Francisco with her husband, two dogs, two turtles, two chickens and fresh water fish! (their very own Noah's Ark!)
